Ingredients

  • Ground beef: I used lean beef but feel free to use your favorite hamburger meat or even swap for ground chicken or turkey!
  • Buns: Best to use are sesame-topped hamburger buns.
  • Cheese: Use Cheddar or American cheese slices.
  • Pickles: I cut them into bits for easier eating.
  • Onion: Diced, use white or yellow.
  • Lettuce: I prefer iceberg lettuce for an amazing crunch.
  • Oil: Use your preferred cooking oil.
  • Seasonings: You can use a store-bought mix of taco seasoning, or just add salt, pepper, cumin, and paprika as much as you’d like.
  • For the special sauce: You will need mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, garlic & onion powder, and vinegar.

Equipment

Skillet: You’ll need a large skillet or a non-stick frying pan to cook the hamburger meat.

Bowl: Use a small bowl to mix the ingredients for the Big Mac sauce.

Whisk: A small hand wire whisk to combine the sauce ingredient, if you don’t have one, use a fork instead.

Knife: To dice the onion and chop the pickles.

Taco holders: Those are handy and perfect to place your big mac tacos, I recommend those taco holders from Amazon.

Squeeze bottle: To serve the sauce, if you don’t have one on hand just add the sauce to a bowl and use a spoon. These squeeze bottles are one of my favorites from Amazon.

Place the hamburger buns on a clean surface and use a rolling pin to flatten them like a taco shell (about ¼” thick).

TIP: After flattened, you can give a quick toast to the buns in a bread toaster for a slightly crunchy touch.

Notes & Tips

  • Use foil to cover the pan with the cooked meat so it will stay warm and moist.
  • Make sure the hamburger meat is hot when you add it over the cheese, so it will slightly melt it.
  • For a spicy touch, add also some pickled jalapeños on top or finely chop them and mix them into the special sauce.

What To Serve With

Those big mac tacos are perfect to serve along with fries or chips and your favorite beverage. If you want to add a side we suggest trying one of these recipes:

How To Store

Assembled tacos don’t store well, but you can store the ingredients separately like this:

  • Cooked hamburger meat lasts up to 3 days in the fridge and up to 3 months in the freezer. Place it in an airtight container to prevent it from absorbing other smells.
  • Wrap tightly the buns with cling film and they will last up to 5 days at room temperature.
  • The special sauce can be stored in a jar or glass container in the fridge for up to a week.
