Agua de Durazno

Agua de durazno is made with ripe fresh peaches, water, and just a touch of sweetness to make the fruit flavor shine. It’s light, refreshing, and comes together in just 10 minutes.

If you’ve spent any time on my blog, you probably already know how much Mexicans love aguas frescas. We drink them all the time, especially when the weather is warm.

While classics like agua de jamaica and agua de tamarindo are always popular, seasonal fruit versions like this agua de durazno are just as loved when this fresh fruit is in season.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Fresh peaches
  • Water
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Sugar
  • Ice

How to Make Agua de Durazno

Wash the peaches well, remove the pits, and cut them into chunks. There’s no need to peel them unless you prefer a smoother flavor.

Add the peaches, sugar, and part of the water to a blender.

Blend until the mixture is completely smooth and the peaches are fully broken down.

Variations

  • For a creamy version, you can blend in a bit of evaporated milk or coconut milk, which gives it a richer, almost dessert-like flavor.
  • You can also mix peaches with other fruits like strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, mango, or pineapple for a fun twist on the classic agua fresca recipe.
  • Add a few fresh mint leaves right into the blender or let them infuse in the pitcher. It gives the drink a light herbal note that pairs beautifully with the sweetness of the peaches and makes it taste even more cooling on hot days.
  • You can also swap the sugar for honey if you prefer a more natural sweetness. Just start with a small amount and adjust to taste, since honey blends in a little differently and has its own flavor that gently changes the final drink. It makes the agua fresca feel a bit softer and more rounded without overpowering the peaches.

The Best Peaches for Agua Fresca de Durazno

My mom always made agua fresca de durazno with yellow peaches, and I think it was because their sweet-tart flavor still shines through even after being mixed with water.

I’ve also made it with white peaches when I want a milder, sweeter drink. Both work well, and if you’re curious about the different types of peaches available, feel free to use whichever variety you have on hand.

The most important thing is always the same: ripe, juicy peaches. They should smell fragrant and give slightly when you press them gently. That’s really what makes the difference here.

When to serve it

Agua de durazno is perfect for warm afternoons, weekend lunches, or anytime you want something refreshing without turning on the stove.

I also love serving it at gatherings, especially alongside simple summer dishes like tortilla chips with salsa, guacamole, or fresh appetizers like elote cups or Mexican-style cucumber salad.

It’s one of those drinks that quietly fits into almost any table and somehow disappears faster than everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to strain the drink?

Yes. Let them thaw slightly before blending for the best flavor and texture.

How long does it last?
