Biónicos (Mexican fruit bowls with yogurt)

Those biónicos are made with fresh fruit, a creamy mix of yogurt, Mexican crema, and sweet condensed milk, then finished with crunchy toppings. They’re colorful, refreshing, and one of those treats that feels perfect on warm days.

Biónicos de Fruta, as they’re also called, are a traditional Mexican fruit bowl that originally comes from Guadalajara, but is now popular all across Mexico.

You’ll often find them at fruit shops and small stands, always made fresh to order right when you ask for them.

Ingredients

  • Fruit: I used strawberries, banana, apple, melon, and pineapple.
  • For the cream: Mexican crema, plain yogurt, and sweetened condensed milk.
  • Toppings: granola, shredded coconut, raisins, and pecans or walnuts.

I start by washing and cutting all the fruit into bite-sized pieces.

In a separate bowl, I stir together the crema, yogurt, and condensed milk until smooth.

Once everything is ready, I divide the fruit between serving bowls or cups. Then I spoon the cream generously over the fruit.

That’s it! These Mexican fruit bowls are best enjoyed right away while the fruit is fresh and the granola is still crunchy.

Best Fruits To Use

Biónicos de Fruta are prepared with whatever fruit looks best and sweetest. Mango, banana, papaya, melon, and pineapple are my go-to combination because that’s what I grew up eating.

But strawberries, apple, grapes, peaches, and kiwi are all great choices too.

The nice thing about this recipe is that there really isn’t a strict list of ingredients. They’re a wonderful way to use seasonal fruit and make each bowl your own.

Traditional Toppings

Every stand seems to have its own combination, but granola is almost always there.

I also love adding chocolate chips, sprinkles, raisins, and chopped pecans for extra crunch and sweetness.

Some people drizzle a little extra condensed milk over the top, and honestly, I can’t blame them. It makes them even more delicious.

Storage Tips

Those fruit bowls with yogurt are best served right after assembling them because the fruit tastes freshest and the granola stays nice and crunchy.

If I know we’ll have leftovers, I keep the cut fruit and the cream in separate containers in the refrigerator and add the toppings just before serving. That way, everything stays fresh and doesn’t become soggy.

Biónico vs. Vasos de Fruta

Both are popular Mexican fruit snacks, but they’re quite different. Biónicos are served with a sweet cream made from yogurt, crema, and condensed milk, then topped with granola, coconut, and nuts.

Vasos de fruta are typically seasoned with lime juice, chile powder, chamoy, or Tajín, giving them a sweet, spicy, and tangy flavor.

  • cup nuts (chopped)
  • cup shredded coconut

Instructions

Notes

  • You can use any seasonal fruit you like.
  • For the best texture, cut the fruit into small, even bite-sized pieces so every spoonful has a mix of everything.
  • The cream can be adjusted to your taste. If you prefer a lighter version, use a bit more yogurt and less condensed milk.
  • These are best served immediately after assembling so the fruit stays fresh and the granola stays crunchy.
  • If you want to make them ahead, prepare everything separately: cut the fruit, mix the cream, and store them in the fridge in airtight containers. Assemble just before serving.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 1 day, but the granola will soften, so I usually add it right before eating.
