How to Make Creamy Sausage Pasta

Place a large pot with water and salt and bring to a boil.

While you’re waiting for the water to start boiling. Heat 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in a pan over medium heat.

Add sausage and break it into small pieces using the back of a cooking spoon. Cook for 7-8 minutes or until the sausage is browned.

Sausage cooked, browned on the pan.

Note: Meanwhile, cook your pasta according to the package. It can take from 8 to 12 minutes, depending on the format and brand of pasta, so adjust the times to allow it to be ready about at the same time as the creamy sauce.

Remove the sausage from the pan and now add the bell peppers and garlic. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then sauté over medium-low heat until peppers are slightly soft (5 minutes).

Sautéed peppers on the pan.

Return the sausage to the pan with peppers and add the cheese cream. Pour in 1 cup of hot water (from cooking pasta) and stir until cheese is combined with the other ingredients.

Add parmigiano and mix, then allow to simmer for 3 to 5 minutes over low heat.

The sauce simmering in the pan.

Turn off the heat, drain the pasta, and add it to the pan with the sauce. Mix thoroughly to coat well pasta with the cheese cream sauce. Serve your creamy sausage pasta immediately.

Recipe Tips & Notes

  • Make sure you place the water to boil as soon as you start preparing this recipe. Then cook the pasta while you’re halfway through sautéing the peppers. This will give you plenty of time to have the sauce ready a bit before your pasta is fully cooked.
  • Cut bell peppers into small cubes so they will cook within 5 minutes. You can adjust the cooking times if you want the peppers to be more soft tho.
  • Serve immediately. As the pasta sits the creamy sauce will become too thick, you’re aiming for a more liquid texture.

What to Serve With This Pasta Dish

The beauty of this dish is that it has everything for a complete meal, including proteins, vegetables, and carbs.

However, if you want to pair it with something else, I recommend this bruschetta al pomodoro and finish your meal with a traditional tiramisù.

Store

If you have leftovers of this creamy sausage pasta, allow them to cool down to room temperature, then place them in an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 2-3 days.

To reheat, place the pasta in a pan over medium-high heat. Add a splash of milk and stir gently until heated through and creamy again.

I don’t like freezing my pasta leftovers, especially if they’re made with creamy sauces. I just don’t like the texture when thawed, so I don’t recommend to freeze this dish.

Creamy Sausage Pasta is one of my favorite pasta ever. My mom always made this for us when she needed something quick and easy to cook but still yummy. I made this earlier and I’m in love! Just like how my mom’s pasta used to taste. Thank you!
