Authentic Flour Tortillas Recipe

M.A. Kitchen

Authentic Flour Tortillas are thin, soft, and chewy flatbreads, essential in Mexican cuisine. Made from wheat flour, fat, salt, and water, they serve as the base for dishes like burritos and quesadillas.

Step 1:  Combine flour, lard, and salt in a mixer, adding water until a soft dough forms. Knead until elastic.

Step 2: Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes. Then, shape it into a ball on a floured surface.

Step 3: Divide the dough into 12 pieces, shaping them into balls. Cover and let them rest for 10 minutes.

Step 4:  Flatten balls into thin rounds, cook in a hot skillet until golden with bubbles, flipping for even cooking.

Step 5: Place cooked tortillas between towels to keep them warm and soft. Repeat until all dough is used.
