Heat the oil on a sauce pan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and fry for about 3 minutes or until the onions start to brown.
Pour in the tomato sauce and season with salt and pepper. Mix well and bring the sauce to a simmer. Lower the heat and let it cook for about 10 minutes or until the tomato sauce thickens.
Adjust with salt and pepper then turn off the heat. Add the basil, mix and set aside.
Place a pot filled with water over high heat. As soon as the water starts to boil add salt and then the pasta. Mix and cook accordingly to the package instructions.
Drain the penne pasta and add them to the pan with the sauce. Mix thoroughly to coat the pasta evenly. Add some parmigiano cheese and combine.
Serve immediately adding more parmigiano cheese and basil.
