Mozzarella Fritta

Mozzarella fritta is a simple and easy Italian recipe that is served as an
antipasto
or snack. It has a wonderful crunchy texture on the outside and a soft, melty texture on the inside.

▢
1
lb
mozzarella cheese
(cut into thick slices)
▢
3
medium eggs
▢
Italian bread crumbs
(as needed)
▢
Oil for frying
(as needed)
▢
salt and pepper
(to taste)
Instructions
Place 1 or 2 cups of breadcrumbs on a large plate.
In a small bowl crack the eggs, season with salt and pepper and whisk until combined.
Working in batches of 2 or 3 slices, dip the mozzarella into the egg mixture.
Transfer to the plate with breadcrumbs and coat the cheese slices on all sides.
Repeat the process for dipping+coating with all slices, so you make a double coat of breadcrumbs.
Place the breaded mozzarella on a plate and repeat the steps until all cheese slices are used.
Pop the mozzarella slices in the freezer for about
10 minutes
.
Heat a good amount of frying oil in a large pan over medium heat.
Fry a few pieces of mozzarella at a time flipping them from time to time until golden and crispy.
As they come out from the oil place them onto a cooling rack for a couple of minutes.
Serve with your favorite marinara sauce.
Notes
Variations for this recipe:
You can add a little bit of
parmigiano
cheese to the bread crumbs.
Mix in some finely
chopped herbs
(basil, parsley, or even cilantro) to the egg mixture for a fresh touch.
My favorite twist is to add a pinch of
chili flakes
to the egg mixture for a spicy kick.
Add a pinch of your favorite
Italian seasonings
, or garlic and onion powder to the eggs or the breadcrumbs for more flavor.
